WHY HAVEN’T OUR INSURANCE PREMIUMS DROPPED??July 25, 2017
Lawsuit filings are down by 80% across the country. In 1993, there were 10 lawsuits per 1,000 citizens; now, there are 2 lawsuits per 1,000 citizens. Court filings for torts, where someone has been injured through the carelessness of another person, are down from 20% of all lawsuit filings, to 5%.
And yet, we continue to pay among the highest insurance rates in the country, and overall, nationwide, insurance premiums have not gone down significantly.
Contrast that with term life insurance, which drops almost daily, as we tend to live longer and thus, make fewer claims on those policies.
No, insurance companies continued to beat the drum of too many lawsuits, and try to convince the general public that a person injured by the carelessness of another driver should not be compensated. Whether it’s a minor injury or major injury, whether the insurance companies driver was drunk or on a cell phone, the insurance companies mantra is dispute, delay, deny, Justice be damned.
